Hey kids, remember this podcast? Yeah, neither do we. But here's our recorded some time ago convention report for Anime Weekend Atlanta 2009! Our special guests are a bunch of crazy people we know, many of whom sleep in Gerald's quarters EVERY NIGHT. Just be warned: the audio and editing quality on this one is...kind of rough.

After two and a half months we finally got it together and have edited some of our Otakon audio! Here's our interview with the Philadelphia Animation Society's "Old Timers of Anime," conducted Saturday, July 18 at Otakon 2009. It's been entirely too long since we've done any con reports. In fact, we owe about a year's worth. But here's our report for Otakon 2009 while it's still fresh in our minds. Warning: in order to release this "on time," we opted to more or less release the audio unedited. It's rougher than we'd like.
We were hoping to have at least part of Show 75 out by now, but this probably marks our three year anniversary of podcasting instead. Kind of fitting, really. Pictures forthcoming.
Now that we're out of "filler" to post, next time will be Show 75 FO' SHO'. Recorded live with our special guest Ryan Gavigan, Daryl will be reviewing the original Bubblegum Crisis OAVs, Gerald will be reviewing Riding Bean, and Clarissa will be reviewing Yakitate! Japan.
Show 75 is recorded and will hopefully be posted soon, but there may be one more convention report bonus edition posted first. Three bonus recordings in a row? Man, we are lazy. Heck, one of them we didn't even edit! We'll upload some important pictures from the con here at some point. This would have been funnier if the people in the outfits weren't so keen on wandering into large events and then leaving in a manner that illustrated they didn't actually care about what was going on in the room. They did spend most of their time in the halls, though. McCain's campaign headquarters was a few minutes away, but they were closed! HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO CONVINCE INUYASHA TO VOTE MCCAIN IF YOUR "VICTORY CENTER" IS CLOSED ON WEEKENDS?! No wonder he lost.

Here's the first of many audio interviews we conducted at Otakon 2008 with some of the members of the Philadelphia Animation Society, an anime club that's been around since 1982. Other news: this weekend is the Providence Anime Conference over in Rhode Island, which we sadly won't be attending on account that we're still trying to recuperate after Anime Weekend Atlanta. But in a few short weeks in upstate New York is SITACon, with special guests Gerald and Clarissa! Then after that, it's EXPCon, followed by Anime Supercon! Man, remember when AWA was the last con of the year? Or when we were able to actually play the videogames we bought?

Featuring Dave Riley from Fast Karate for the Gentleman, and Mike Toole as the Voice of God. Recorded Saturday night from about 1 AM to 4 AM WHILE COMPLETELY SOBER. Except for those Irish anime podcasters. You can't keep them away from the bottle.
While I'm not going to disable comments for this post, I am going to say that you should probably leave comments there instead of here. You can leave comments here too if you really want, but it'll just mean we have to follow TWO sets of comments for the same show. Crazy, man.
Show 72 hasn't even been recorded yet. We'll try and remedy that by the end of the week. Except Anime Weekend Atlanta is coming up soon, and a still unknown number of panels must be prepared for it.
Here's an interview we conducted with veteran anime voice actor and ADR director Richard Epcar at Florida Supercon 2008. Some of his more notable roles include Batou from Ghost in the Shell, Jigen from the Geneon dubs of Lupin the Third, Guld Goa Bowman from Macross Plus, Hiko Seijuro from Rurouni Kenshin, and Coach Kamogawa from Hajime no Ippo. That's not even scratching the surface.
This interview also doesn't even begin to scratch the surface, since Richard Epcar's got tons of stories to tell. Be sure to check him out if he's at a convention near you! At about 30 minutes, this might be the very first AWO release that falls within conventional accepted guidelines for podcast length!

Since it's been a few weeks since the last release and we only just finished recording Show # 70, here's a live podcast we recorded at JACON 2008 for the dearly departed Snacktime Online podcast to tide people over in the meantime. For this bonus installment of AWO, the role of Gerald will be played by Paul Chapman from the Greatest Movie EVER! podcast and the role of Clarissa will be played by Joey Snackpants, whom we interviewed back in Show # 18.
Here's our interview from Anime Weekend Atlanta 2007 with renowned science fiction anime director Noboru Ishiguro, whose works include Space Battleship Yamato (aka Star Blazers) as well as Superdimensional Fortress Macross (part of which became Robotech), the movie of which we reviewed back in episode 50 along with another of his works entitled Megazone 23 Part 1. We recommend listening to those episodes first if you are not already familiar with these titles.
This weekend is JACON, which all of us will be attending. If you'll be there on Friday, show up for Paul Chapman'sOdin: Photon Space Sailer Starlight marathon if you dare. How long will Joey Snackpants be able to handle the pain? Saturday, Gerald's got his mecha panel and Daryl's got the Panel OF DOOM! from 11 PM to 1 AM on Saturday night.
In other words, the release of the next episode is delayed.

Excised from this recording was the conversation about Jenny dolls, which for those of you who didn't know were invented by Leiji Matsumoto's wife. The only reason it was removed was because the recording was stopped mid-discussion.

Show 62 was running a bit long and we were already two months late on releasing this anyway, so we'll just upload the convention report for AWA 2007 as its own separate thing since we probably won't get much done during the Thanksgiving weekend. You need something to listen to while waiting in line/traffic for Black Friday, right?
If this had been sufficiently planned out, this episode would have also included our con report done at the convention with some dudes with a website, but that'll have to wait for another day. More important AWA photos will be posted then.

We don't actually have a show recorded for this week, so here's the audio to our interview from Anime Festival Orlando 2007 with Funimation voice actor, director, and comicbook artist Sonny Strait (Krillin in DBZ, Hughes in FMA). None of us have ever done a live interview before prior to this.
This is not a standard episode of AWO, but since we're all incredibly busy with school, convention preparation, and relocating to another city, we're talking about the subject of bootlegging in anime as well as Volume 1 of the journal Mechademia, entitled "Emerging Worlds of Anime and Manga."

The bootlegging discussion is from 0:00 - 47:20. Since Christian Daly and Greg "DESTROY SURAT" Spahr could tell we were totally going to steal from their material in doing a discussion on how to spot bootlegs, here is their Powerpoint presentation from their panel at AWA 2004 on the very same subject which contains pictures of several of the bootlegger logos as well as pretty much all of the information we conveyed, only it's in a couple slides that can be read in minutes as opposed to heard by us. Jerry Chu was there too, but I don't think he listens to this show. Then again, Greg probably doesn't either. Too busy raising a family or something, the big wuss...NO WAIT, KEEP AWAY

This podcast just came out today! And...their feed is down at the moment! However, they like the podcasts we like, such as...us! Therefore, we shall draw your attention to it, even though it's their first episode and they're undoubtedly still working things out. Edit: Okay so they've got three episodes, and not only do they use sound clips from the Hong Kong dub of DYRL, Tranzor Z, and Robotech...TO THE RESCUE! (I lie to myself and say they got them from us, and we in turn swiped it all from Mike Toole and Dave Merrill), but episode one is all about GETTER ROBO~! And really, discussion of that is the best possible application of one's film degree, because we stole the film noir quotes from Jeremy Kaufmann, who runs this operation.
Review: Mechademia: Volume 1 (48:07 - 1:41:47)
Per its official web page, the focus of this journal is manga and anime, but rather than limit themselves to just that subject--perhaps to make it easier to get papers?--it is the editorial board's position that the production, distribution, and reception of anime and manga continue to generate connective networks manifest in an expanding spiral of art, aesthetics, history, culture, and society that they call Art Mecho.
